A Void

A Void

While working as a caretaker at an old concert hall, a young woman begins to experience an otherworldly presence. “A Void,” directed by Dominique van Olm, is an eerie mood piece that simmers in the realm of the unknown. Seemingly withdrawing from her normal life, Julia completes her duties around the venue, mopping floors, cleaning windows, coordinating with vendors. But her sense of reality appears on the edge of rupture, in interactions with strangers and with her avoidance of family. Playing the isolated woman is Daiva Zalnieriunas, a naturally compelling screen presence and herself a talented filmmaker that we featured in 2019 with her short, “Farewell Winona." We’ve also featured van Olm previously with her beautifully intimate 2018 documentary “Little Brother.” -KA. Director, Editor: Dominique van Olm. Writer, Producer: Bryn Wiebe. Cast: Daiva Zalnerius, Ish Majik, Shane Mclean, Becca Willow Moss. Director of Photography: Julia Hendrickson. Production Designer: Grace Eakins. Original Score: Dillon Baldaserro. Re-recording Mixer: Evan Jerred. Colourist: Conor Fisher.
